BILL PROFITA WJBO Radio Host When Bill Profita was growing up in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois, it didn't seem as though he would end up on the airwaves of a talk radio show in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After high school and during the first part of college, Bill joined a military training program that was created to train medical staff for the service. In the program he worked as an emergency room technician and taught other paramedics first aid and CPR. Once he got further into college, Bill went on to major in General Studies with focuses in speech and broadcast management, which led him to his current job. Bill says that if he could have any other job, he would go back to the emergency room environment. Although Bill loves to cook and travel, it's his other hobbies that he's really interested in. Bill says he is a failed guitarist, but owns several guitars since he used to play quite a bit. There was also a time when Bill wanted to fly airplanes and took lessons. He has flown in hot air balloons, blimps, commercial planes, private planes and even an open cockpit plane where he and his wife learned to do air tricks! For Bill, Pink isn't just about supporting a worthy cause. Bill lost his mother to breast cancer when he was only 18 years old. "Back then breast cancer was a death sentence...it was just a question of when. My mom was so afraid when she found the lump herself - breast cancer just wasn't as common back then as it is now...and we sure didn't know as much. To see how far treatment modalities have come and how many women are now surviving this life-threatening disease is truly amazing...and a blessing." |
